You may have been surfing the internet and stumbled upon our blog. By looking around and reading up on different subjects, your brain activity got a little boost. Research found, that this brain activity is especially beneficial for the elderly as they’re generation is most predisposed to dementia. More specifically, a team at UCLA has found tangible and lasting results showing that internet surfing stimulates the mind much more than reading a book.
The head of UCLA research team and professor of neurscience, Dr. Gary Small used a functional magnetic resonance imaging imaging technique to determine most and least active parts of the brain.
‘We found that for older people with minimal experience, performing Internet searches for even a relatively short period of time can change brain activity patterns and enhance function,’ Dr. Gary Small, a professor of neuroscience at UCLA.
Detroit Marathon resulted in three runners’ deaths. 13.1 mile half-marathon in Detroit over the weekend finished with a tragic ending. 3 male experienced runners collapsed at different points in the race and died “despite resuscitation efforts.”
26 year-old Jon Fenlon running with his girlfriend and her mom collapsed just passing the finish line. Daniel Langdon, 36, father of three and Rick Brown, 65, who was running his 50th marathon, were only a mile and a half short of finishing when they fell to their death of cardiac arrest.
Dr. Jenny Atas, the medical director for the marathon with a team of 60 other medical volunteers, said even the best runners in a perfect shape have “inherent heart problems.” Also the weather was extremely and unusually cold for the mid-October run and could have resulted in hypothermia.
“We did everything we could,” Atas said. “My team did a phenomenal job.”
The mystery behind Octomom has been revealed. During the In-Vitro Fertilization procedure, it is one of the guidelines by American Society for Reproductive Medicine’s (ASRM) to transfer “only one or two embryos in patients under age 35 to reduce the risk of multiple births.” More times than not, it results in a single or twin babies. However, Nadia Suleman’s IVF treatment resulted in eight babies, only a few years after her first IVF treatment that gave her sextuplets.
All signs point to Dr. Michael Kamrava, a reproductive endocrinologist in Beverly Hills, CA and Nadya Suleman’s fertility doctor. Suleman spoke out to the media that she had a total of six embryos transferred to her uterus during each of her pregnancies. During her second time, it resulted in eight babies “because two embryos split into two pairs of identical twins.”
For this and other deliberate practice errors, Dr. Kamrava is being expelled from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the main infertility professional organization.
“We have a disciplinary committee that gathers information, we give people an opportunity to explain themselves, and then we take action if the committee thinks it’s necessary,” ASRM spokesman Sean Tipton said. “It’s a lengthy process. We’re very concerned with providing appropriate due process… it’s our responsibility to set standards of care”
