March is Women’s History Month. To celebrate, Vitals took a look back at women who’ve made significant contributions to medicine. We also looked at our data to see the current state of women in medicine. Today, women represent 50 percent of medical students. However, there are still income gaps between male and female physicians and less women practicing medicine compared to men. In Arkansas, Utah and Mississippi, there are three times more male doctors than female doctors. Massachusetts, Washington D.C., and Oregon are the three states with the greatest parity between the genders. See our infographic below to read more about women in medicine today and in the past.
