If you’re like me, you look at celebrities’ flawless, wrinkle-free skin and raise your fist angrily to the sky, cursing the heavens for not revealing these skincare secrets or blessing you with the bags of money it undoubtedly takes to obtain perfect skin.
Well, it’s time to lower those fists and compose yourselves because these “secrets” are readily available on the internet (what can’t you find on the internet?), and you’d be surprised at how simple and low-cost the best skincare tips are.
It’s not a specific product or procedure (though they may swear by their personal regimens) that keep these celebrities looking young and fresh. It’s the basic skincare function they perform. Here’s what we should all be doing to maintain our youthful glow:
Any celebrity who hopes to keep working beyond their 30s knows the importance of protecting their skin – arguably one of their most important assets – from sun damage. Celebrities like Julia Roberts and Halle Berry, who are both over age 45, stay looking like they’re not a day over 30 by religiously apply sunblock with an SPF of at least 15 daily.
Besides the sun, dead skin cells are our skin’s number one enemy. Most skin-conscious celebrities are very diligent about regularly getting facials, peels, and other often pricey treatments to slough off the old and reveal the new. But, luckily for us, there are a number of great exfoliating face washes sold in the drugstore that can be used daily for glowing, celebrity skin. Or, you can do what Real Housewife of New Jersey Caroline Manzo does to keep her age 50+ skin looking vibrant – shave your face and neck daily during your morning shower.
Gentle Blemish Care
It’s not just teenagers who suffer from acne. Wearing makeup and daily exposure to pollutants in the atmosphere can cause any adult to break out. And who wears heavier makeup than celebrities? We’ve all seen acne prone celebrities like Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne, and Alicia Keys hawking anti-acne treatments on TV. That’s why celebrities know the importance of washing your face daily and always completely removing makeup before bed. And while we all can’t run to the dermatologist’s office anytime we have a pimple, we can still follow every dermatologist’s advice: don’t pop it! Popping pimples leads to inflammation, so treat with an over-the-counter salicylic acid cream instead.
Last, but definitely not least, the key to wrinkle-free skin is moisture. Minka Kelly has been using eye cream since the age of 19, and won’t step out of the shower without moisturizing from head to toe.
