New York City Implementing the Largest Bike Share Program in the Country

Starting this summer, New Yorkers will see bicycle docking stations being erected at various locations throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn as part of the new Citi Bike bike share program.

Following on the success of similar programs in major cities across Europe, Citi Bike will enable paid members to borrow bicycles from docking stations for short rides around town – convenient considering over 54 percent of trips made by New Yorkers each day are two miles or less.

The bike share program is projected to have a positive impact on the health of all New Yorkers due to the decrease in congestion and pollution from traffic and the added benefit of a cardiovascular workout for the riders.

Before deciding to replace your current method of transportation with biking, be sure you’re in good enough health to do so by seeing your doctor for a physical.
