Adam Yauch, or “MCA” of the legendary hip-hop group the Beastie Boys, lost his battle with cancer today at the age of 47.
In 1986, the New York based rap group’s debut album “Licensed to Ill” was the first rap album to reach number one on the Billboard Charts.
Yauch announced his diagnosis of cancer of the salivary gland and a lymph node in 2009. Just last month, the Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but Yauch was too ill to attend.
He is survived by his wife and daughter.
