In honor of February being Heart Month, a recently released PSA from Stanford’s Women’s Heart Health Clinic debunks some commonly believed myths about heart disease, and shares some surprising statistics.

Dr. Jennifer Tremmel, a cardiologist with the clinic, said,

“Not only is heart disease not just a man’s disease, it’s not just an elderly person’s disease.”

In fact, according to the PSA, cardiovascular disease kills:

  • Six times more women than breast cancer each year
  • More than 500,000 women a year
  • More women than men each year
  • One out of every two women

Whether you’re male or female, young or old, heart health should be taken seriously – this month, and every month of the year. So, visit Vitals to find a cardiologist who is right for you.

And be sure to prepare for your visit; find out what questions to ask, what tests may be necessary, and more by using our heart health Patient Guides on coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.
