An intricate $7 million Medicare and Medicaid fraud case run by a Jackson family physician over two years has awarded her 125 year sentence by U.S. District Judge Dan Jordan.

Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Scott Gilbert said in court that Dr. Cassandra Thomas created a scheme by sending unlicensed and unqualified personnel into homes to give therapy sessions to patients.

Dr. Cassandra Faye Thomas claimed that she was not aware of the regulations that require her present during the patients’ in-home-therapy sessions

“She didn’t know Medicaid expected her to be in the home of each patient,” said her attorney Thomas Freeland.
