After word spread about “John of God,” a farmer with very little education who is able to heal patients with a wide variety of diseases living in a small rural town in Brazil, millions flocked to Casa in Abadiania with hope.
Dr. Jeffrey Rediger, a psychiatrist in Massachusetts, decided to see for himself and his medically trained eye the validity to these rumored miracles.
“Some people who I spoke with were able to remember the events going around them completely, and some people seem to enter a sort of altered state during these surgeries,” Dr. Rediger said. “When I was assisting in one of the surgeries, [John of God] cut this woman’s cornea. She didn’t flinch. She didn’t try to pull away from him. I can’t explain that. I heard some people use the term ‘spiritual anesthesia.’ I have no way to understand that.”
With hopes to collect tangible evidence, Dr. Jeff Rediger traveled to Brazil and got more than he expected. He recounted his experience on the Oprah show:
Dr. Jeffrey Rediger says he experienced firsthand something unexplainable while in Brazil. He says he was walking down the street one day when a friend pointed out to him that he was bleeding. Dr. Rediger pulled up his shirt and found a small horizontal incision on his chest. Dr. Rediger, who does not have a bleeding disorder, says it bled for about an hour.
Dr. Rediger: I didn’t know what to say; I didn’t know how to respond. I had no idea what was going on.
Oprah: Because you suddenly have spontaneous bleeding and an incision that you didn’t have before? Is that what you’re telling us?
Dr. Rediger: Correct. I’d never had anything like that happen in my life. Ever. I’d been to seminary, medical school, residency in psychiatry, and nothing had prepared me to understand.”
Oprah: Looking back, with some hindsight and perspective, do you have a medical explanation for what happened to you?
Dr. Rediger: I don’t have a medical explanation for it. My whole life has been turned upside down in many ways. I have changed a lot.
According to Vitals.com, Dr. Jeffrey Rediger completed his medical degree at a top-ranked Indiana University School of Medicine in 1997. With consistent excellent patient ratings, Dr. Jeffrey Rediger has an average wait-time of 10 minutes at his practice.

I agree!!! How can this even be remotely skewed as “unbiased”??? The alleged “skeptic” is a “convert”? Why was there not more medical pre-visit documentation and documented medical follow-ups…not just heresay??? Why was not there a true skeptic, or a magician who performs these types “surgeries” on stage brought on the show? And we are suppose to believe that Dr. Rediger just spontaneously started bleeding? What proof is there? The camera was not on him 100% of the time. It is unbelievable that something so potentially harmful was not presented with the other side. This “Oprah-woo-ology” has crossed the line!!!

What terrible critical-thinking skills this man must have to pour the gasoline of credulousness all over his scientific career and throw the match of Oprah on it. Pathetic how he dissembled and said he “tried to get” scans and records for the patients. If he had proof we’d see it by now. Physician, heal thyself.

Thank Jebus other people can see the truth. I was disgusted by this episode. Oprah disgraced herself with this.

Show me one, just ONE, study where people are examined beforehand to confirm diagnoses where follow up is done on an ongoing basis to show a statistical anomaly on verifiable medical conditions….
Fuck you Oprah

Hello Dr. Rediger, So glad to see this story out there. I don’t understand why people are so skeptical. They believe Jesus is gods son, so why not believe he sent more than one son to do his work spreading the message. I believe in miracles because God has shown me so many and gave me one of his sons. Yes, I have a miracle child and have seen god’s will towards us. It is a spiritual thing and your right about our bodies being an instrument for us to communicate and manuver things. That’s why you felt that warmth in your heart, he was communicating with the real you, (your soul). We are spirit lights that nestle in the heart of the body, which we call our souls. The light that people who dies, see. That light is the sun in the sky that we live off and keeps everything of nature alive, and nothing in this universe can get next to, because that light is GOD. I know this for a fact, I spoke to him. He sent me back to keep his son on his path, he has a mission in life. That’s what he told me I had to do. It’s all about LOVE!!!!! May god bless you and I love you very much.

Dr. Rediger used to be affiliated with John Mack, the UFO guy, the one and the same man that used to work for PEER in Cambridge (this organization was the originally formed as “The Center for Mind Control” funded by Rockefeller), which utilized Post WWII Nazi psychiatrists to test LSD and other horrendous drugs on the public (just look at Colin Ross’ work). Anyhow, have had personal past experience with Dr. Rediger at PEER, and as a result of bringing my child for “treatment” of her “alien” visions, our whole family was subjected to all kinds of bizarre things for a period of three months after my bringing my child to him for help for her “visions,” including death threats via phone (witnessed by three people), beating, drugging, torture (yes in the good old U S of A), and Dr. Rediger coming into our house multiple times, saying he’d “help” by bringing in EMF equipment to figure out just how our computer had been hacked, with death threats posted in a local chat room, directly to our family. This was all during a divorce proceeding with an abusive ex with “connections,” and Dr. Rediger was Dr. Mack’s right hand man. He knew about the torture and the drugging, even as he acted as if that organization had nothing to do with it. Dr. Rediger told us that the reason all this happened to “US” was that “a hole had opened up in the universe” and thugs would follow people, police would follow us, and we had to approach all of it with “NO FEAR.” I did a little research, and made it clear to Dr. Rediger that I’d read some books about the post-WWII history of mind control in the US. He never called back, after following us for months. Voila, eleven years later, Dr. Mack has died under bizarre circumstances, and the illustrious and pseudo “philosophical” Dr. Rediger reappears is working with John “of God.” I just hope for the people who are following this babble that the placebo effect works, regardless of whether some guy pulls things out of people’s noses. By the way, my child was sexually abused, and alien visions are common. There’s something rotten, and it’s not in Denmark.

I have personally met with Dr. Jeffrey Rediger, He treated me at
McLean Hospital, a psychiatric hospital in Brockton, Ma. He is a wonder Dr. he helped me through a very tough time in my life when i tried to commit suicide and almost succeeded! He told me things no other psychiatrist has ever had the balls enough to say. Hes forward and outspoken when need be and very forward with what he feels is appropriate to each and every person he treats. He told me things about myself that i hadn’t seen about myself and never made it obvious or clear about myself. He told me Aurora live your life. All of this hurt and pain inside of you, you must not allow that to take over your life anymore. your a beautiful girl who is talented and bright and from what I hear can sing very well. He gave my father an earful too lol and put him in his place I never saw my dad shut up the way he did lol!!!! It felt good for someone as a Dr to put that damn pan in his place and take credit for the damage he has done to me. Needless to say i told my dad to screw sometime after and realized I did not need him in my life. My mother for that matter. I know that i am somebody to be loved because of Dr Rediger. I then left my husband after that too lol and took my life back. I said who needs men. If they are in my life its because I chose them in the first place. That I dont need people to make me happy if I believed in myself. That trying to find my own inner peace is the only thing that can. To stop having people in my life that were not good for me. u can love who u want but from a distance and it doesnt make me bad for thinking so. Hes an awesome psychiatrist and I am proud to have met such an incredible man who helped me through a difficult time in my life. Actually all my life it seems. He got a earful himself and was in shock that one girl could have been through so much in such a short life.

As a therapiest myself i know that healling is a matter of the soul that effects the body. Not everything is explainable. The science is just revielling facts about the brain and the force of it on what we call reallity. Dr Rediger is one of more Dr to come and say: “We do not know, but this does not mean it does not excist”
