Dr. Jacquelyn Kotarac’s body was found wedged in the fireplace flue of her boyfriend’s home in Bakersfield, CA.
Dr. Kotarac was a board-certified Internist, seeing up to 200 patients weekly.
“She was a very good doctor, a wonderful person,” doctor’s boyfriend, William Moodie said. “She just had her problems.” (kget.com)
As strange as the circumstances were, the investigation found no foul play.
“The Bakersfield Police Department has been investigating the death as suspicious from the onset and there is no evidence of foul play,” said Sgt. Mary DeGeare in a news release. “All the evidence, thus far, indicates the woman voluntarily accessed the roof via a permanent ladder and voluntarily removed the chimney cap then slid down the flue feet first.”
Moodie left the house undetected to avoid a confrontation and stayed Wednesday night elsewhere. When Dr. Kotarac did not arrive for work on Thursday, both her assistant and Moodie searched for her at Moodie’s home and located her car and belongings, the BPD reported. But they found no indication Dr. Kotarac had entered the home. She was reported missing by Moodie and her medical staff on Thursday afternoon. (kget.com)
An autopsy on the body of Dr. Jacquelyn Kotarac is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1st.
According to Vitals.com, Dr. Jacquelyn Kotarac completed her medical degree at a top-ranked University of California Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine in 1991 and her residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Isn't it interesting that the volume of bizarre physician behavior (and the National Practitioner Data Bank holds files on a full 250,000 considered “Dangerous” or “Questionable”) was not once discussed during the entire 24-month babble called the Health Care Debate. Kind of an oversight, don't you think?
For the record, 11,000 doctors managed to do something unbelievably stupid, just in the last decade alone. And it looks for all the world like 2010 will be another banner year for the Medical Maniacs of America.
I have an idea – let's all just close our eyes and pretend that everything's okay in American health care. When physicians shoot 44 people on a military base; secretly film their nude patients; create their own drug cartels; rape murder & molest 300 kids in a career – let's all turn our heads the other way and imagine that – at least for today – we haven't seriously tripped into the Twilight Zone.

she is already sorely missed. an amazing woman and doctor.

An error on judgement. If she is the same person of some 20 years ago. Very determined to become a doctor. Drove from Irvine to Davis, CA all by herself in a not so reliable car just for an interview to medical school. Will fly or drive to NY if that is where she will get the chance of getting accepted to medical school. If it's the same boyfriend then, he was more in love with her than she with him. Her #1 thing was becoming a doctor and to excel. UCLA med sch was her dream and she got it. That was the last time in memory. I wish the media (radio, etc.) or the blogs, understand this incident as unfortunate the way i see it. may she rest in peace.

Wrong on 3 counts, bucko. At the time of my graduation (1977) ALL medics came out of medical school. That was the only place to get an emergency education, back in the day. Mine was UCSD La Jolla school of medicine.
Regarding your second point, I have terrific rapport with our ER system MDs and always have. Why? Because none of them are fools, nor have any of them made the 'lab coat lunacy' list in the National Practitioner Data Bank.
Your overall comment is so narrow-minded I'm guessing you can look through a peephole with both eyes. I have a terrific attitude towards competency.
But I have a seriously crappy attitude on STUPID. So I'll make you a little wager: you find ONE other profession that had 2,490 (or more) convictions of idiotic behavior in any of the last five years, and I'll pay you a nice crisp $100 bill.
Just don't hold your breath while you do your research, because trust me: I've done mine. NO professional in society kills more people; scams more systems; steals more money; causes more pain; gets away with more garbage behavior – than the errant physician population. And there are thousands & thousands of them.
And that was a $100 bill, by the way. Go ahead – make my day.

You are absolutely right. We all screw up. We all get our minds in a twist sometimes and make “stupid” moves, when we're emotional. That doesn't make us any stupider than the next person. It just means we made a human mistake. In her case, bless her heart, the choice was fatal. I personally hope she didn't suffer very long.

Agree 100%. Strange indeed. But for the record, there's a hilarious (and sad) book out there called, “America's Dumbest Doctors.”
Hundreds & hundreds of truly weird 'daffy doc' stories. And I'm betting for most readers, the late J. Kotarac, MD's strange end wouldn't even make the Top Ten, of the craziest of lab coat lunacy tales.

While a neighbor hears faint cries for help the boyfriend, even though he spends the night in the house doesn’t? There is something sinister at play here.

We only have one side of the ‘story’ and it’s not her’s. Your generous post here show’s a hint of another, much needed, perspective.
