BRET MICHAELS SUFFERS A BRAIN HEMORRHAGE

After what started out as a pounding headache, Bret Michaels was rushed to the hospital on Thursday, April 22. As a result doctors informed him that he suffered a “massive subarachnoid hemorrhage or bleeding at the base of his brain stem.”
Although the cause of hemorrhaging is still unknown, doctors believe it may be related to his Type 1 Diabetes.
Dr. Dexter Sun, a Neurologist at New York Presbyterian Cornell-Weill Medical College was approached by Hollywood Life to learn about the prognosis of Bret Michael’s condition.
“If this is massive and especially if the brain stem is involved, this is usually very serious,” says Dr. Sun. “If the hemorrhage was minor, usually it would resolve on it’s own. However, if it’s massive, the most common cause would be a cerebral aneurysm.”
”The brain stem truly is the center of life — it’s the center of breathing.” Severe pressure on the brain stem can cause “‘brain herniation’ which could cause a coma.”

On a positive note, family reported that Bret was talking and sounded upbeat.
Dr. Sun says — “If he’s alert and talkative, that’s a good sign. If he’s talkative, the outcome is usually good.”
More recently Poison’s lead singer, Bret Michaels has been known for his stints on reality shows such as Rock of Love and Celebrity Apprentice.
