Heidi Montag, a pseudo Hollywood celebrity went to great lengths to transform herself. She had more than ten procedures done in one sitting including a “back scooping” procedure that has the media buzzing.
“It’s not a new procedure,” says Barry M. Weintraub, MD, a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon and a spokesperson for the American Society of Plastic Surgery. “It’s basically micro liposuction of the back.”
When the lower part of the back is treated with liposuction, it can actually be contoured so that it is concave and does not display any fat rolls, he says.
“Every now and then a plastic surgeon comes up with a lay term that hasn’t been heard or used before,” Weintraub explains. “In essence, you’re scooping the fat out of the back in a very detailed and carefully controlled way.”
“You produce a flatness and a more concave appearance,” Dr. Weintraub explains. “It is very pretty, aesthetically pleasing and it takes in the waist secondarily, too, because when you measure one’s waist it is not just the front. It goes around to the back.”
