First there was Bedazzled, then there was MafiaWars, and now Farmville has lured in more than 11 million online users on Facebook and Myspace.
On the Dr. Phil Show, a woman was confronted for taking her daily dependence on the game to the point where she was neglecting her own family. Tendencies for erratic behavior started showing up, when she would lash out at family members for using the computer.
Dr. Phil points out the extremes Teresa has gone to so she doesn’t have to share the PC with her family. “She unplugged the router, so you would think the Internet had gone down, and as soon as you went away, she plugged it back in and went back to tending her crops,” he tells Jennifer.
“Part of the reason is because of her attitude when I do ask to get on the computer,” Teresa begins.
“No, it’s not,” Dr. Phil interrupts. “You unplugged it because you have a ridiculous addiction to a ridiculous computer game that’s interfering with your ability to be a mother. You needed a fix, and she wouldn’t get off, so you had to create the opportunity.”
Anyone with a Facebook account can pinpoint a friend or two who are hooked on FarmVille or MafiaWars, among other games. One of Dr. Phil’s suggestions to curb the addiction is to simply delete your Facebook account.

Clearly the woman is in denial and as fun as Farmville is (and should be), Dr. Phil has a point.
If gaming becomes so bad that you neglect the people you supposedly love, then I say that it’s time for a reality check. It was just a question of time really before something like this happened and hit the media. I bet there are hundreds of stories like this we never hear of.

Personally I see only 3 solutions to curing my wife’s addiction to this Farmville game. 1. I can divorce her. 2. I can kill her or 3. I can kill myself which ain’t gonna happen so if a divorce comes into play I will sue Facebook for alienation of affection and if 2 comes into play I will just plead temp. insanity.
